The Hallyu Korean Wave has been spreading far and wide over the years. Beginning with the popularity of K-dramas in the early 2000s, the Hallyu Wave has been growing larger as numerous countries are diverting their attention to K-dramas and K-pop.
With that, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism conducted a survey worldwide asking individuals from various countries to select the most popular Korean celebrities - both singers and actors.
The ministry released the data revealing the most popular Korean artist and actor voted by people around the world. So here are the results:
According to the chart, BTS came in at first place with an overall 26.7% of votes. BTS topped the popularity poll in 16 of the 19 countries polled. They were followed by BLACKPINK with 10.4%, then IU with 2.8%, Lisa with 2.4%, and Psy with 2.2%. The other artists in the ranking include TWICE, EXO, Big Bang, G-Dragon, Jungkook, GOT7, Super Junior, V, and Jimin.
For actors, Lee Min Ho came in at first place with 9.3% of overall votes. Lee Min Ho topped the popularity poll in 15 of the 19 countries polled. He was followed by Hyun Bin with 3.1%, then Gong Yoo with 2.8%, Song Hye Kyo with 2.2%, and Song Joong Ki with 2.1%. The other actors who made the ranking include Lee Jong Suk, IU, Jung Ho Yeon, Kim Soo Hyun, Suzy, Park Seo Joon, Ji Chang Wook, Lee Jung Jae, and Park Shin Hye.
