The court has ruled against an appeal filed by Jang Geun Suk's mother.
On February 20 KST, media outlets reported that the Seoul Central District Court ruled against an appeal made by actor Jang Geun Suk's mother to cancel a fine of 3 billion KRW (2.7 million USD) for evading taxes. The decision was made official during the first trial of the case.
Back in January of 2021, Jang Geun Suk's mother had received a suspended prison sentence of two and a half years and a four-year probation period along with the fine. Her company Tree J Company was indicted on charges of violating the Tax Offense Act, while the only actor signed under the agency was her son, Jang Geun Suk.
According to the court, an act of using a "foreign bank account to receive earnings from a corporate body had to be reported, as such accounts are difficult to be traced by the National Tax Service." Although Jang Geun Suk's mother had pleaded innocent, the court found her guilty of tax evasion and has also ruled against her recent appeal.
