Kang Daniel has become a hot topic for his display of street battle knowledge after the airing of the first episode of Mnet's new dance competition show 'Street Woman Fighter'.
In episode 1, which aired on August 24, Kang Daniel was seen shouting certain phrases during the dance battles. A netizen took to Pann to explain how these are common dance battle phrases and correct typos that the Mnet editor made:
"Rock rock rock" (mistakenly written as lock) is used to hype up the audience and increase their reactions.
"Back off" (mistakenly written as back up) is used to hold back the audience when they climb on stage.
He also complimented dancers using technical knowledge. He told Aiki of HOOK crew that she had silent beat killing, which means even after the music cut off her moves were in line with the beat.
Kang Daniel’s background in street dancing was precisely the reason he was made MC. PD Choi Jung Nam explained in the show’s press conference:
"Not only is Kang Daniel a representative idol of Korea, but he also has experience with street culture and b-boying activities. I’ve watched many of his videos. I thought that he would be able to properly emcee at the height of the battle. He ended up being very helpful during filming."
After watching the first episode and seeing the dance battle terms explained, netizens on Pann and theqoo applauded the PD’s choice of Kang Daniel as MC, who made the show’s dance battles more authentic and rich with reactions:
"The MC was a really good pick. He fit into the battle seamlessly and made it enjoyable."
"They did a good job choosing Kang Daniel as MC. Did he do lots of dance battles at his academy?"
>"He was originally a street dancer"
"In the 'back off' video the pronunciation was good and it felt like a real battle. It was a good decision to have an MC with this experience."
"Kang Daniel’s reactions are deliberate. Music is important in dancing, and when the dancers perform a notable move with the music, or a technically difficult move, you’re supposed to react like that. Those who aren’t familiar with dance battles can follow the MC’s reactions. He’s done b-boying and the expressions are used there more. He has a good understanding of battle atmosphere."
"Mnet should have gotten Kang Daniel to write the subtitles."
'Street Woman Fighter' airs on Mnet every Tuesday at 10:20 pm KST.
Not even a fan but I freaking love watching Daniel dance, it’s mesmerizing. I think him being the MC was an excellent choice. He’s also so damn handsome.
