Netizens expressed their ridicule at BigHit's statement on BTS's album selling power.
On June 13, BTS's management label BigHit informed media outlets that they expected for the group to "surpass the goal of one million album sales with the 'HwaYangYeonHwa' series." According to BigHit, the one million mark will be achieved by aggregating the sales of 'HwaYangYeonHwa Pt. 1,' 'HwaYangYeonHwa Pt. 2,' and 'HwaYangYeonHwa: Young Forever' together, which sold 274,351, 351,413, and 310,243 copies, respectively. When the numbers are all added up, the sales for BTS's 'HwaYangYeonHwa' album series equal 936,007 copies sold. The album sales are based on data from Gaon.
BigHit predicted the one million mark as 'HwaYangYeonHwa' parts one and two are still sitting atop charts and as BTS will be holding their Asia tour come August.

While ARMYs couldn't be happier to hear this good news about BTS, others didn't share in their joy. Netizens commented, "Why would they taint their own name with an article like this lol," "Why would they publish an article like that by combining the album sales from last year and this year lololol," "If you combine [album sales] like that then SHINee would be million sellers, too," "It's only a million seller if one album sells a million copies," "I had to research 'HwaYangYeonHwa' because of [this article] lolol. I thought that 'Pt. 1,' 'Pt. 2,' and 'Young Forever' were repackages but that wasn't the case; each is a different album but they just made it out to be a 'series.' It's not one album so how is it a million seller? lolol. I didn't know such a calculation method existed," and more.
