The fire started with a post on a community site that was titled, "Is there anyone who likes MONSTA X?". The post then read, "I'm from the same middle school as one of the members and he's a f*cking b*stard. It frustrates me when he comes on TV. I really hate him. He's trash who used to smoke, drink, and kick women."

When the original poster was accused of making false information and told they would be reported to the label, they posted again, "I'm going to explain myself about the MONSTA X post," and wrote, "I didn't come in after I wrote that because I was busy, but now that I see it today, the comments are immense. Some girl said they're going to take a screenshot and send to the label, but I'll prove myself. How should I do it? Should I take a photo of the picture and write my nickname on a paper? I'm now 24. What would I gain from lying and bringing down an idol who just started promoting? It's true that I see him in a bad light because it's something that happened to my friend. I'm not exaggerating at all when I say he drank and smoked, and it's true that he was a thug. It's true and it's so frustrating. I'm working right now and I live by myself and my album is at home, but I'll prove everything in 2-3 days."

True to the posters words, they posted proof of Kihyun in his middle school smoking and drinking. They titled the post, "Everyone who said to prove myself on the MONSTA X Kihyun post, look here," and wrote, "Look at his Yoo Kihyun's shirt in the first photo. The cigarette in the rightmost hand in the 2nd photo. I don't have to say anything about the rest, right? (Green bottles are soju and brown bottles are beer). I found it from Cyworld by asking a middle school friend. Of course, it's my fault for posting something that looked like it was just to spread rumors without any of this proof. I�apologize�for that and I ask the two people who asked this to be deleted on the suggestions board to take those down. Also a lot of people cursed me out and called me a crazy b*tch and I want to get an apology but it doesn't matter if you don't. It's 7 years ago in 2009 during our middle school graduation."

However, later on the poster did write, "I'm the person who wrote the MONSTA X post" and wrote in the body, "I don't have proof that he hit women, so don't spread that, I'll ask of you ??"
