According to an exclusive report, Choi submitted a petition for a preliminary injunction for the banning on 'Assassination's screening, along with a petition for a damages suit at Seoul District Court. Choi claimed that the plot of 'Assassination' is similar to that of 'Korean Memories,' the novel he published back in 2003. The novelist explained that areas of the movie's plot, including Kim Goo's organization and leadership of a team of snipers and a female sniper infiltrating Joseon and murdering the pro-Japanese faction, coincide with the plot of 'Korean Memories.'
Caper Films, the company that distributed the movie, stated, "Once we receive the petition, we will consult with our lawyer to respond to the lawsuit. We will definitely prove that the movie is not plagiarized."
