Back on January 26, a 20-year-old Ilbe member Kim caused an uproar on the internet when he posed as a Danwon High School student to mock Sewol Ferry victims. Kim uploaded a picture of himself, shown above, eating a fishcake and making the signature Ilbe sign with his hand. Along with the picture he wrote the caption, "I ate my friends," implying that he was eating the fish that fed off the Danwon students who died in the Sewol Ferry incident.
Kim has since been located by the police and is currently being investigated. The rumors regarding his alleged suicide started when a Facebook user posting under Kim's name left hints online that he was planning on taking his own life. Netizens believed that the Facebook user made his own funeral arrangements before doing the deed. When an "unnatural death" case arose around the Mudeung Mountain area, netizens wondered if the body that was found belonged to Kim.
Ansan Danwon Police have stepped forward to state that although they have confirmed the existence of this Facebook, it is unrelated to the Mudeung Mountain case. They said, "We have concluded that the news of the suspect's (Kim's) suicide are wild rumors. We believe that the suicide post written by a Facebook using the same name as the suspect was made to create a fuss."
As for the identity of the Facebook user, the police continued, "As we have not confirmed whether the netizen who wrote the suicide post is the same as the suspect or a different person, we will be tracing the netizen."
In other news, the police will be carrying out an investigation to locate Facebook users who degrade Sewol Ferry victims.
