A female Chinese patient was reported to have suffered cardiac arrest during her plastic surgery procedure. The plastic surgery clinic is currently being investigated for unlawful practice.
The incident occurred near the end of January when a Chinese tourist visited a plastic surgery clinic in the Gangnam District of Seoul. Her heart stopped while she was under the knife and she was immediately transferred to the Samsung Seoul Hospital. She has been unconscious ever since.
The plastic surgery clinic is currently being investigated for illegal establishment. The hospital office manager who founded the clinic is believed to be a non-medical personnel who took the title of a medical profession in order to open the institution. The cause of the patient's cardiac arrest and whether it is related to the clinic's faulty practice has yet to be determined.
On January 30, the Korean Association of Plastic Surgeons (KAPS) spoke on the issue, saying, "We know that on January 27, the accident occurred during the evening and [the patient] was immediately taken away and received first aid treatment [at the clinic]." They continued, "Considering that it has been three days since [the patient] has been unconscious, her chances of regaining consciousness again are not high."
As the patient is not a South Korean citizen, she is being charged for hosting fees by the hospital.
Netizens top comments include, "They probably rushed to apply compensation fees seeing that the Chinese patient might die keke," "Shouldn't you tell us where this [clinic] is -_-," and, "Now we can see the Gangnam unnie face in China, too (women who reside in the Gangnam District are known for having similar faces due to plastic surgery).... In the future, we will write in our history books that even Chinese people came to Gangnam, Seoul for facelifts."
