It was previously reported that comedian 'Mr. Kim' had been arrested for assaulting his wife. Even though no names were specifically mentioned, netizens pieced the information together and found out that it was actually Kim Kyung Min. The realization fueled a torrent of hate toward the comedian, especially because the alleged assault occurred during Chuseok after he had even appeared on a tv show with his family.
With the media being flooded by the reports and his case even being discussed on the news on TV, Kim Kyung Min has spoken up and is now suing the reporter and the media outlet that had first reported that he assaulted his wife, as well as the person who revealed his identity to the press. He is suing them for defamation of character, citing damages that could not be reversed.
He said, "I argued with my wife for something very small, and I made a mistake. I got carried away, so I even cursed at her. My wife called the police to fix my habits out of anger. That's it. I was released with just a warning, and everything was fixed up well. Then my child told me that there were articles, so I was shocked. The situation was only a small occurrence for us, but the unbelievable article blew up the situation and both my wife and I were hurt by it."
He asserted that he had neither hit nor choked his wife as the reports say, and that the fight had just been a verbal argument that happened while they were deciding on what to eat.
His wife also confirmed that nothing violent had happened. She revealed, "We did fight, but it was nothing like the way it was reported. This isn't an article, this is more fiction." She continued, "Isn't it funny? I told this to a writer unni, and she laughed." She further explained that she called the police to teach her husband a lesson out of anger. "I didn't feel any threat. Shouldn't the person who first reported it have called us? All of Korea's media made my husband into trash. I did call the police because I was so angry at his cursing, but the rest isn't true. Someone even reported that my daughter reported us. My 6 year old daughter. If you report to the police, everything gets recorded. After you check it and it comes out as false, will that reporter take responsibility for the wrong article? If he hit me, I would have bruises, but I'm fine."
