After a half-year of uncertainty, the MBC labor union has announced an end to the 170-day strike, the longest in broadcast history.
The decision was made after a union members' meeting at the MBC headquarters located in Yeouido on the 17th. All MBC broadcasts will return to normal beginning on July 18th at 9:00 AM KST.
The strike began in January of this year to protest the wrongdoings of current MBC president Kim Jae Chul and the stifling of freedom of the press. The strike's immediate goal, which was not achieved, was to force the president to step down.
In a press conference after the meeting, the labor union announced their decision to end the strike. A representative stated, "We will continue our efforts to unseat Kim Jae Chul in a different direction. [The halt] was a unanimous decision."
With the strike over, programs such as 'Infinity Challenge' will be returning to their regular broadcasts, greeting viewers for the first time in almost half a year.
