The ladies of Nine Muses have returned to the music scene with a new song after 5 months, and have applied some changes to their group. For starters, Nine Muses who previously had 7 members are now promoting with 8, and they have traded in their bubbly image for one that's more fierce and charismatic.
The girls looked completely different from the way they looked for their "Figaro" promotions when Issue Daily caught up with them for an interview.
Their new song "News" was composed by sweetune, and the dark beat and melody has been receiving high praise from fans. The dance is also powerful and provocative with a lot of visuals to take in throughout the performance.
"With our previous song "Figaro", the choreography was very bright and bubbly, but "News" is a bit darker, and we worked to make the melody, dance, and stage ensembles much more fierce. The song is about a woman who broke up with her man who indirectly tells of the inner feelings and emotions of women (Lee Sem)."
"I think through our new promotions, our fans will be able to see how much we've grown and developed as artists. We've never officially showcased our rap skills but there's a lot more rap in the new album. But it doesn't stop there, we have matured as musicians and challenged ourselves to try new genres of music. Our goal is to show you each of these new improved sides of ourselves (Hyuna)."
"The album is still very classically Nine Muses, but the way we deliver emotions will feel different. This song is a sad song, where we must act cool on the outside, despite feeling hurt and scarred on the inside. That kind of expression is really different from before (Euaerin)."
In order to have a more systematic format, the girls have recruited new member, Kyungli. Before her official debut, Kyungli who was born in 1990 was known as an 'ulzzang (good looking)' dancer, and her previous experience has raised the expectations of their fans.
"I can't believe that I'm here with Nine Muses right now, after watching them perform on TV. I don't think I will be nervous because I have previous experience dancing, but I don't have much experience as a singer and I think I will be a little unnatural when it comes to things like gestures and facial expressions. I will work harder to make up for the things I lack. I hope that with my own addition, we can further make a name for ourselves as Nine Muses (Kyungli)."
"We have more members now, and people are more aware of who we are, so I think we will be able to become a lot more active in 2012. All of us have a lot of individual talents, and we will try to show you those talents in the coming future (Sera)."
The members want to prove that they are highly capable artists and expressed their desire to be active in a lot of different ways...
"Before I joined Nine Muses, I worked in an office working with actors and actresses. If I ever get the chance, I would like to try acting. As of right now, I am a member of Nine Muses and therefore I would like to prove myself as an artist and further my studies in music. I have a lot of interest in genres like electronic pop, Indie music, and more (Hyuna)."
"I know that I am one of the vocals for the group, but I have a lot of passion for rap as well. Someday, I will show you my rap skills (Sera)."
"Because I am new to the group, my priority right now is finding my identity within Nine Muses, and afterwards, I would like to feature on an entertainment program (Kyungli)."
"I really like to sing. If I ever have the opportunity in the future, I would like to release a solo album or take up roles in musicals (Hyemi)."
"I made my breakthrough into the entertainment industry as an MC. I didn't do it for too long, but I would like to learn more and build some experience as an MC."
The girls also recently traveled to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates with their label mate, Seo In Young to stand on the 'Yasalam 2011' stage. They performed alongside major artists such as Britney Spears, Paul McCartney, and Fat Boy Slim.
"I was glad to see that there were more Korean fans in the Middle-East than I expected. I went to the shopping mall, and a lot of people actually recognized us. We took photos with the local people and made some good memories. It was so cool that people recognized us as Nine Muses (Lee Sem)."
"It was really fun to perform in a new setting but we were also really worried. But thankfully, everything there was set up perfectly and we saw Britney Spears' performance and realized why she was such a big pop star. We saw a lot of things that we couldn't experience in Korea, so it was a big help to us (Minha)."
These girls have been known to be 'Model Idols' and have always had a chic and intimidating image, but in real life these girls are confident and wise, and they know that they want to go far with their music. They are determined to make 2012 their year and they will without a doubt be making "News" in the new year.
