allkpop reported earlier that Hot Topic, the American clothing chain specializing in 'punk rock', 'hipster', and 'geek chic' fashion, was allegedly selling unauthorized versions of Korean music through their online store. Since then, it has been revealed that the albums in question were indeed unauthorized, and Hot Topic has since removed the albums from their site. Hot Topic acknowledged that the products were unauthorized and has since apologized to the K-pop community. When pressed on the reason as to why the unauthorized product was uploaded onto their site to begin with, Hot Topic representatives pointed out that ShockHound, a partner company, were the ones in charge of their music downloading department. When further asked for answers on exactly who uploaded the music, why the error occurred, if there were any impending lawsuits, how much they made, or what they would do with the profits already acquired, no further comment was made on behalf of Hot Topic or ShockHound. If there are any further developments in this case, we'll be sure to update you.
