What's this, you're hoping that this is one of those articles where the title is totally misleading and doesn't actually mean what it says? Well, it's not. It's been confirmed that a new reality television series based around Koreatown life will be made -- but wait, there's more. Co-producing the show will be rapper-turned-actor-turned-entrepreneur Tyrese Gibson. What?! That's right. In case you're not familiar with his work, Tyrese is an African American R&B singer/rapper, and you've most likely seen him in the movie 2 Fast 2 Furious and both Transformers movies as a special forces soldier. An advertisement recently went up on Craiglist saying,
"Tyrese Gibson's production company HQ Pictures is looking for interesting, attractive, colorful Asian-Americans to cast in a reality show similar to JERSEY SHORE, REAL WORLD, THE HILLS, etc.. We need beautiful Asian-Americans with lively, strong, and unique personalities between the ages of 18 to 30 with equally interesting life stories and perspectives to share, especially individuals who know about and/or experienced the Koreatown life."But you don't need to be a Korean or even Asian to join the show. Although Asians are preferred, as long as the person has experienced Koreatown life and is "obsessed with Asian culture", they may be considered for casting. Many doubted the legitimacy of the ad until Tyrese Gibson himself confirmed it on his official Twitter account. Now the news is spreading like wildfire and there seem to be mixed reviews everywhere. As great as it may be to finally have the Korean culture brought into the light on a bigger scale, a show that may be like MTV's Jersey Shore might not be a good thing. For those of you that aren't familiar with this show, Jersey Shore focuses on the lives of a few young Italians called "guidos". Since the start of the show, there has been much outcry and backlash from the Italian community for the inappropriate portrayal of their culture. But who knows, this may turn out to be different, and we should give the show the benefit of doubt. So what do you guys think--yay or nay? Excited for this show?poll
