Psy describes his dream retirement stage + reveals he would not be who he is today without the band Queen

AKP STAFF

On May 13, Psy appeared as a guest on KBS2's late night music program 'Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook', which welcomed back audience members for the first time in over 2 years!

On this day, Psy performed his latest title track "That That" prod. & feat. SUGA of BTS, as well as his hit songs "Champion" and "It's Art". Then, the singer treated the audience members to a set of energetic encore tracks, bringing everyone to their feet.

During his interview with MC Yoo Hee Yeol, Psy was asked, "Have you ever imagined what your retirement stage would look like?"

Psy answered, "I do. If ever the day arrives that I feel like it is my time to part with the stage, then it would go like this. Right before I go on for my last show, I would hold a press conference. I would announce to the world, 'I will be retiring after today'. This is all just stuff I've imagined in my head, of course. But I've always wanted to try it once, saying to everyone, 'Thanks for all the good times,' and then putting down the microphone. But there's more to the situation. See, I would be holding a press conference in front of the reporters, sitting on a raised stage. But behind me, there would be a curtain. And beyond the curtain, would be the concert arena. So once I put down the microphone, the curtain would open, and the audience would see the reporters sitting there. And then, I would climb up onto the table, and a rope would come down, and I would grab onto the rope and go flying into the air (laughter)."

Next, Yoo Hee Yeol mentioned that Psy is now a veteran artist of 22-years, with over 180 songs released under his name. The MC then asked, "If you could name one song that made the person Park Jae Sang (Psy's real name) the man he is today, what song would it be?"

Psy pensively replied, "For me, there is only one music group that I can call the music group of my life, from my second year in middle school until now. It is Queen."

The singer added on, "When I saw Freddie Mercury singing on stage, performing such beautiful, avant-garde music while wearing white pants and no shirt on, and the band is a group of four guys who call themselves 'Queen'... I just thought that it was so cool and incredible and inspiring. Even though I could not even sing or make music, I thought at the time, 'I want to be like them'. Since that moment, for me, there's nothing else in my life but Queen and their music."

To further show his admiration for Queen, Psy sang a snippet of the track that shook his life upside down during his youth, "Love of My Life".

Freddie had so much charisma. He could hold an entire stadium of people in the palm of his hand. It's a kind of magic really 😁
