On April 4th at 11 a.m., South Korea’s Constitutional Court officially ruled to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol from office, marking a historic moment in the nation’s constitutional and political history.

In a unanimous decision by all sitting justices, the court declared, “The respondent, President Yoon Suk Yeol, is hereby dismissed.” The verdict comes 123 days after the declaration of emergency martial law on December 3rd — referred to as the 12·3 incident — and follows a long legal process that began with the National Assembly's impeachment vote on December 14th.
The Constitutional Court’s ruling was delivered 38 days after the final arguments were heard, making it the longest deliberation period in the history of South Korea’s presidential impeachment trials.
This unprecedented decision removes Yoon from power, further intensifying the political landscape and signaling a new chapter in South Korean governance.
