The South Korean police have begun an investigation against Johnny Somali (real name Ramsey Khalid Ismael) for obstruction of business and alleged drug use. The controversial steamer is barred from leaving the country while the investigation takes place.
The Seoul Mapo Police Station began an investigation against Johnny Somali after allegedly disrupting business at a convenience store on October 17. The streamer allegedly poured instant noodles on a table after an employee stopped him from drinking alcohol. When more employees stepped in to stop the streamer, he allegedly responded with violence and slander.
Additionally, the police revealed they also plan to begin investigations for alleged drug use after they received a report through an emergency hotline.
Johnny Somali is a controversial streamer notorious for his provocative content. He was banned from entering Japan after being charged with "forcible obstruction of a business" at a Gyudon restaurant in Osaka and tressing passing a construction site.
The YouTuber recently caused outrage in South Korea for a series of inappropriate actions. Not only was he removed from a Seoul subway train for making inappropriate noises during a livestream, but he also showed immense disrespect toward a bronze statue serving as a tribute to "comfort women." During a live stream, Somali was seen kissing, twerking, and performing suggestive dances around the statue. Over the past few weeks, several Korean YouTubers have been actively tracking down Johnny Somali, with some even intending to physically confront him. In one such incident, Yoo Dal Geun, a former Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) soldier, confronted Somali during a live stream and knocked him to the ground. Police nearby quickly arrested Yoo and he was later released.
