Renowned baseball talent Shohei Ohtani has taken the world by surprise with the announcement of his marriage.
On February 29, Ohtani announced on Instagram, "Not only have I begun a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers, but I also have begun a new life with someone from my Native country of Japan who is very special to me and I wanted everyone to know I am now married."
Along with the English caption, Shohei Ohtani also included a letter in Japanese thanking fans for their support.
He wrote, "Thank you for your warm support all the time. A new season is coming and I want to share an announcement. Not only have I started a new with a new team and environment, but I also believe the two of us (plus one animal) can support one another and continue forward together with the fans."
Given Shohei Ohtani's substantial fan base in Korea, news of his marriage quickly spread across Korean online communities.
Korean netizens responded, "Oh wow," "Congrats!" "Oh my gosh," "I'm crying," "I can't believe he's taken," "His dog is so cute," "I can't believe Ohtani is now off the market," "Yes the three of us will live happily together," "That was so sudden," "What in the world," "I'm envious of his wife," "I hope he lives a happy life," "Congrats," and "This is the most surprising news yet."
Hopefully, the media and fans won't stalk and torment his wife like they did Yuzuru Hanyu's now ex-wife (divorced because of the press and fans).
