Actor Lee Dong Wook is receiving a wave of politically charged backlash on social media, particularly from far-right commenters, following a message he shared with fans that many interpreted as a subtle nod to South Korea’s recent political developments.
On April 4th, shortly after the Constitutional Court ruled unanimously to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol from office, Lee posted a message on fan platform Bubble saying, “Ah, it finally feels like spring. The winter was so long.” While the comment appeared to be about the weather, many fans linked it to the political shift, interpreting “spring” as symbolic of a new beginning.

However, far-right internet users flooded Lee’s Instagram with negative comments, accusing him of political bias. Phrases like “Why are all celebrities leftist?”, “You must be a supporter of Lee Jae Myung”, and “This must be a ‘Dream’ spring for commies” were among the reactions left under his posts. Some users sarcastically accused the actor of disregarding public opinion and labeled his message as a political statement.
This isn’t the first time Lee has drawn political attention. Last year, he shared Girls’ Generation’s protest anthem “Into the New World” in support of fans participating in pro-impeachment rallies, saying he simply wanted to encourage them in the cold weather.
Lee is currently starring in the tvN drama 'Divorce Insurance' and has been maintaining strong communication with his fanbase despite the recent online attacks. Many supporters have rallied behind him, praising his subtle yet sincere expressions of solidarity.
