A broadcast jockey (BJ) who was sentenced to prison for blackmailing singer and musical actor Junsu, has filed an appeal.
According to Newsis, Ms. A, a woman in her 30s who was indicted on blackmail charges under the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Economic Crimes, filed an appeal on the 7th after being sentenced to seven years in prison in the first trial.
On the 6th, the 11th Criminal Division of the Uijeongbu District Court (Presiding Judge Oh Chang Seop) sentenced Ms. A to seven years in prison, stating, "The nature of the crime is severe," and "The victim has suffered both financial and psychological harm and is requesting strict punishment."
The court further explained, "The defendant recorded private conversations with the victim, took photos, and decided to extort money when their relationship soured." The ruling added, "The defendant has admitted to all of this, and the evidence overwhelmingly supports a guilty verdict."
Ms. A was arrested and indicted for extorting approximately 800 million won from Kim Junsu over 101 instances between September 2020 and October 2023. She was investigated for threatening to record and distribute private conversations with Kim Junsu to coerce payments.
Regarding the case, Kim Junsu filed a lawsuit, claiming that he initially met Ms. A believing she was a nail artist, only to be extorted for five years.
His agency, Palm Tree Island, emphasized that Kim Junsu was targeted due to his celebrity status, stating, "Kim Junsu is clearly a victim," and "We have confirmed that there are multiple victims of Ms. A’s blackmail, not just ourselves. We have decided to take legal action to prevent further harm."
