MBC Weathercaster Kim Ga Young has been embroiled in allegations that she bullied her junior colleague, the late Oh Yoanna, and an MBC insider has come forward with claims supporting these accusations.
On January 31, the YouTube channel 'Garo Sero Research Institute' released a recorded phone call with an MBC insider.
Previously, the late Oh Yoanna’s family claimed on this channel that “Park Ha Myung and Choi Ah Ri bullied her openly, while Lee Hyun Seung and Kim Ga Young did so behind her back.”
Regarding this, MBC insider 'A' stated, “Killing someone's esteem is not just about hurling insults or speaking harshly to someone’s face. People who pretended to be kind and supportive in front of her ostracized her behind her back just because she appeared on 'You Quiz' by saying things like ‘a girl without XXX is just a nobody.’”
Insider 'A' also claimed that Oh Yoanna and Geum Chae Rim were systematically ostracized by their seniors simply for being new employees. They stated, “If Park Ha Myung directly bullied Oh Yoanna, then Choi Ah Ri was even worse when it came to attacking Geum Chae Rim.”
Additionally, it was alleged that Kim Ga Young tried to drive a wedge between Oh Yoanna and broadcaster Jang Sung Kyu. The insider claimed, “Kim Ga Young co-hosts a morning show with Jang Sung Kyu. She knew that Oh Yoanna and Jang Sung Kyu were close since they worked out together. After finding this out, Kim Ga Young told Jang Sung Kyu, ‘Oppa, she’s a liar. She has no decency,’ trying to turn him against her. Upon hearing this, Jang Sung Kyu later confronted Oh Yoanna, saying, ‘I heard you lie a lot,’ which shocked her. When she asked, ‘Who said that?’ he replied, ‘Kim Ga Young did.’”
As these specific claims of Kim Ga Young's bullying surfaced, the comment section was flooded with criticism against her. Comments included: “She wants to appear nice to others, but in reality, she’s manipulative and full of greed—terrifying,” “It’s like watching the real-life version of The Glory,” and “It’s scary how she put Jang Sung Kyu in a tight spot.”
Meanwhile, Oh Yoanna, born in 1996, passed away at the age of 28 on September 28, 2024. At the time of her death, the specific circumstances were not disclosed. However, it was later revealed that a 17-page suicide note was found on her phone, detailing workplace bullying. According to Maeil Newspaper, the note described how she suffered bullying from two specific weathercasters. It stated that mistakes were falsely blamed on her, and when she tried to correct inaccurate weather information, she was criticized as “a junior daring to correct a senior.”
On January 23, Oh Yoanna’s family filed a lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court against her colleagues for damages related to workplace harassment. In response, MBC has formed an investigative committee, led by an external expert, to uncover the truth. Additionally, the police have begun an internal investigation following complaints filed through the National Petition Service.
Kim Ga Young, who has been named as one of the alleged perpetrators, has stepped down from the segment on MBC FM4U’s 'Good Morning FM with Tei.' However, her participation in SBS’s hit variety show 'Kick a Goal' remains undecided, with SBS stating, “We are waiting for the investigation results.”
