The ‘2024 MBC Gayo Daejejeon WANNABE’ broadcast scheduled for December 31st has been officially canceled, according to an exclusive report by Xports News on December 30th.
According to industry insiders, the ‘2024 MBC Gayo Daejejeon WANNABE’ will instead air as a pre-recorded broadcast at a later date, although the exact schedule, including the date and time, has yet to be determined. There will be no changes to the lineup of performers.
Previously, MBC also canceled the ‘Entertainment Awards’ and the ‘Drama Awards.’ Regarding the ‘Drama Awards,’ MBC stated, “To join the nation in mourning, the live broadcast of the ‘2024 MBC Drama Awards’ originally scheduled for December 30th at 8:40 PM has been canceled and will be replaced with a pre-recorded broadcast.”
MBC further expressed condolences, saying, “We pray for the souls of the victims and once again extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved families.”
On the morning of December 29th, Jeju Air flight 7C2216, traveling from Thailand, crashed into the outer wall of Muan International Airport. Out of the 181 passengers on board, 179 lost their lives, with 2 sustaining injuries. In response, the government declared a national mourning period from December 29th to January 4th.
The situation surrounding ‘Gayo Daejejeon’ is reportedly quite complex. To ensure smooth execution, pre-recordings had been conducted since mid-December. Many top-tier idols, including NewJeans, aespa, ATEEZ, and Taemin, completed their performances during these sessions.
While canceling a heavily-invested program is not an easy decision for the broadcaster, MBC continued with the scheduled recordings as planned. However, with the nation in mourning, it would be inappropriate to air performances featuring dancing and singing.
In the wake of this heartbreaking tragedy, numerous stars, including G-Dragon, Jaurim, and Park Myung Soo, have expressed their condolences, while artists like EVE SEO have postponed their album releases.
