Music platform Melon has partnered up with Data Lab for part one of its year-end report, proving that 2024 was a year in which both veterans and rising stars moved listeners with their music.
According to Data Lab, the song that accumulated the most 'hearts' on Melon between January 1 through November 12 of this year was IU's "Love Wins All". The song also accumulated the highest number of unique listeners on Melon for 2024, demonstrating IU's popularity as the "nation's singer".
Next, G-Dragon's "Power" was the song that accumulated 100,000 'hearts' in the shortest amount of time, soon after its release on October 31 KST. Meanwhile, aespa's "Supernova" was the song that maintained a spot in the top 10 on Melon's 'Top 100' chart for the longest time in 2024, not to mention also sweeping a total of 7 awards for the girl group at the recently held 'Melon Music Awards 2024'.
A total of 46 albums released in 2024 entered the 'Melon Hall' and became 'Millions Albums', a title granted to those albums which surpass 1 million streams within the first 24 hours of release. A total of 111 artists entered the 'Billions Club', a membership granted to artists who accumulate 1 billion streams across their discography.
Of the 46 albums which entered the 'Melon Hall' this year, it was PLAVE's 2nd mini album 'ASTERUM : 134-1' which accumulated 1 million streams in the fastest time, at 4 hours and 10 minutes, the fastest record by any artist on Melon. 'ASTERUM : 134-1' further accumulated the highest number of streams in the first 24 hours of release by an album released in 2024 at 6.04 million, surpassing the limits of the relatively new genre known as "virtual idols". On the other hand, aespa was the only artist in 2024 to boast 3 'Millions Albums'.
This year, 'Billions Club' member Lim Young Woong became the second ever artist on Melon to earn a 'Diamond Badge' for accumulating 10 billion total streams across his discography, a badge previously held only by BTS. Lim Young Woong also accumulated the most streams of any artist in 2024, racking up a total of 1.9 billion streams.
Finally, DAY6's "Time Of Our Life" was the song most chosen by Melon DJs, while the most listened-to pop song on DJ Playlist was Charlie Puth's "I Don't Think That I Like Her".
Parts two and three of Melon's year-end report will be available in December and January.
