MBC’s well-known variety show ‘I Live Alone' seems to be facing a steady downturn in popularity, as viewership ratings continue to drop. The show, which first started airing over 10 years ago, presented a unique and intriguing concept: viewers were provided with an inside look at their favorite celebrities’ home lives. ‘I Live Alone’ offered a genuine behind-the-scenes portrayal of the daily lives of famous stars such as SHINee’s Key and MAMAMOO’s Hwa Sa.
However, the show’s ratings have been steadily decreasing lately, and viewers attribute this decline to a lack of exciting guests recently. The latest episodes starred actors Ahn Jae-hyun and Lee Joo Seung. The show followed their lives as Ahn Jae-hyun went in for a wisdom tooth extraction, and Lee Joo Seung visited different wedding venues for his older brother’s upcoming marriage.
Overall, viewership dropped 1.1% for these episodes, as fans of the show stated that they found both stars uninteresting and their daily lives too quiet and uneventful. The calm energy of Ahn Jae-hyun and Lee Joo Seung left viewers bored, especially due to the fact that the show airs on Friday evenings, when viewers generally seek out more exciting content.
Similarly, another recent episode starring NCT’s Doyoung and actor Cha Seo-Won reached the lowest viewership ratings ‘I Live Alone’ has had yet, hitting a low of 5.1%. Once again, viewers commented on the uninteresting and dull nature of these guests’ lives as portrayed on the show.
According to industry insiders, getting new celebrity guests is becoming a major challenge for the show. Famous celebrities are worried about the privacy issues that could arise from showing their houses and daily lives on TVs, not wanting to encourage stalking behavior from fans. Other celebrities simply worry that their daily at-home lives are too boring to be featured on the show.
As a result, the show’s problem of repeatedly featuring uninteresting guests has become even more difficult to solve. As a show that has aired for over 10 years, viewers are expecting new and exciting content from ‘I Live Alone.’ If the production team cannot find new strategies to revitalize the show and renew viewers’ interest, the end of the show’s long run may be in sight.
