BLACKPINK member Jennie experienced racism while attending an event in France.
On October 1st (local time), Jennie attended the Fashion Week event in Paris, France. She was invited as the official ambassador for the global fashion brand Chanel.
Jennie drew attention with her blonde hair transformation, greeting many global stars warmly before and after the event.
However, a video circulating online shows Jennie interacting with American actress Margaret Qualley, born in 1994. In the video, after hugging Jennie, Margaret Qualley rudely touched Jennie’s blonde hair and asked, "Is your hair real?" Jennie responded that it wasn’t, to which Margaret replied, "It looks real."
Many international fans are criticizing Margaret Qualley’s behavior as racist. They argue that asking an Asian person, such as Jennie, about the authenticity of blonde hair—something uncommon among East Asians—is a form of racial discrimination.
Margaret Qualley has yet to offer any explanation or apology regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, Jennie will make her solo comeback on October 11th with her new digital single, 'Mantra'.
Previously, Jennie became the first Korean female solo artist to receive Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for her collaboration song 'One Of The Girls' with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, released last year.
According to YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK plans to make a full group comeback and embark on a world tour in 2025.
