Oh Sang-wook, the 27-year-old gold medalist in fencing from the 2024 Paris Olympics, has once again been caught up in dating rumors with Japanese model Haruka Toyota.
The speculation reignited after Oh appeared on the SBS variety show Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny on September 2nd, where he discussed his ideal type. Oh mentioned, "I like tall and cool people. I prefer someone who is stylish rather than just pretty, and I like a girl with a girl-crush vibe rather than someone overly feminine."
This statement led to discussions on various online communities, with many noting that Oh’s description of his ideal type resembled Haruka Toyota, with whom he has been rumored to be in a relationship.
The rumors began when fans noticed that Oh and Haruka were following each other on their social media accounts and frequently exchanged likes and comments. Additionally, some fans spotted what appeared to be matching couple items, further fueling the speculation.
Oh had previously revealed in a YouTube video released in November last year that he was in a relationship. In the video, comedian Kim Jun-ho playfully urged Oh to get married quickly and mentioned how seeing references to Oh’s ex-girlfriend online might upset his current girlfriend.
Haruka Toyota, who is reportedly dating Oh, was born in 2000 and is of mixed Japanese and Korean descent. She is a former ballerina trained at the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Russia and is currently active as a model.
Oh Sang-wook made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics by securing the first gold medal for South Korea in the men’s individual sabre event and also contributed to winning the team gold medal. With these achievements, Oh became the first Asian fencer to complete a career Grand Slam in individual events, solidifying his status as one of the world’s top fencers.
