The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in the United States is set to launch a retrospective exhibition spotlighting the illustrious acting career of actress Youn Yuh Jung.
As per the Korea Foundation (KF), the Academy Museum in LA will host a retrospective exhibition titled '윤여정: Youn Yuh Jung' from the 17th to the 25th of this month.
The Korean Film Screening Series '윤여정: Youn Yuh Jung' exhibition will shed light on the film journey of Youn Yuh Jung, who made history as the first Korean actor to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress with 'Minari' (2020). The series will feature screenings of eight films, including her debut work 'Fire Woman' (1971), 'Canola' (2016), 'The Housemaid' (2010), 'A Good Lawyer's Wife' (2003), 'The Bacchus Lady' (2016), 'Boomerang Family' (2013), and 'Lucky Chan-sil' (2019).
Youn Yuh Jung will be in Los Angeles from May 17 to 18 to meet local audiences at the Academy Museum.
The Academy Museum expressed, "Through this retrospective exhibition of Youn Yuh Jung, an irreplaceable and prominent figure in Korean cinema, we are honored to commemorate the remarkable films she has created over 50 years." They added, "Youn Yuh Jung stands as a symbolic figure and role model for many actors in Korea. Through bold and honest characters, she continues to push the boundaries of storytelling." They further noted, "This retrospective exhibition will showcase Youn Yuh Jung's diverse works that have contributed to cinematic heritage across generations."
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is the largest film-specific museum in the United States, inaugurated in 2021 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the organization behind the Academy Awards.
