Lee Sun Tae of Mnet's 'Dancing 9' has been sentenced to over 3 years of prison for dealing drugs.
On May 29, reports revealed the popular 'Dancing 9' dancer was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison for violating the Narcotics Control Act in December of 2023. According to reports, police first investigated Lee Sun Tae after he allegedly received 400 grams of the methamphetamine philopon from an American citizen at a hotel. In the same year, he was also charged with distributing narcotics through Telegram, either by delivering narcotics to other drug dealers or by hiding narcotics in secret locations.
Additionally, Lee Sun Tae was charged with injecting philopon in a car parked in an alley in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, as well as smoking marijuana in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul.
Lee Sun Tae filed an appeal on May 16 of this year claiming his prison sentence is excessive, and he'll be attending his appeal trial on June 19.
Lee Sun Tae first gained public attention after appearing on Mnet's 'Dancing 9' in 2013 and 2015. He then went on to receive the 'Kim Baek Bong Award' at the '2017 Korea Dance Association Awards Night' in 2017 and was selected the 'Culture Star' to shine in 2018 by the newspaper Kukmin Ilbo. As an actor, Lee Sun Tae played the lead role of Jaejin in the short film 'The Revenge of the Scarecrow' in 2016, and he's also appeared in web dramas like 'Bland but Good Day' in 2017 and the Channel A drama 'Twelve Nights' in 2018.
