Growing concern among Korean parents as the "underwear" fashion trend in K-pop MVs raises eyebrows

AKP STAFF

Parents are expressing increasing concern over a prevailing trend among K-pop idols—the 'Pantsless' look.

A new fashion trend, characterized by shorts with triangular lines resembling underwear or even the complete absence of pants, known as the "pantsless look" or "no pants look," is causing concern among parents. The trend has gained momentum, with popular idol groups like LE SSERAFIM, BLACKPINK, SISTAR, and more leading the way, prompting worries that teenagers may imitate the style.

Fashion insiders report that the pantsless look is on the rise, evident in recent appearances such as LE SSERAFIM's Huh Yunjin, who featured in a teaser for their latest mini-album, 'Easy.' In the video, Huh Yunjin confidently strolls through Seoul's Jongno Nakwon Shopping Arcade at night wearing only a white bralette and gray panties, with a long pink padding jacket.

SISTAR's unit group, SISTAR19, made a bold statement during their comeback performance on January 16, appearing in white bralette tops, panties, and boots.

(G)I-DLE also embraced the trend by revealing a concept photo featuring a silver, glittering bikini top and short white bottoms against a snowy backdrop. In the teaser video for their title track 'Super Lady,' released on January 26, the group was seen without pants.

While there have been positive reactions, with some expressing sentiments like "It feels liberating" and "It's impressive not to be swayed by prejudice and judgment," a segment of netizens has raised concerns. There have been comments such as "It's not appropriate to come out in underwear," "I'm worried that teenagers might follow suit," and "It seems like a forced trend" that underscore the discomfort and negative perceptions associated with this style.

You're the parent, if your kid is not allowed to go pants-less then make sure they know they're not allowed to go pant-less. Just like you let them know they can't stay out all night or drink your beer.

Stage outfits ≠ street clothes. If you can’t explain that to your child, then you have more issues to deal with. People really expect for everybody but themselves to raise their kids.
