ARTMS is ready to pick a name for their official fandom!
On October 22 KST, the six finalist names fans will be able to vote on were officially revealed. According to the announcement, fans will be able to vote on ASTER (member HeeJin's pick), APOLLO (member HaSeul's pick), OURII (member Kim Lip's pick), BEAMS (member JinSoul's pick), Bow (member Choerry's pick), and Bit (MODHAUS CEO Jaden Jeong's pick).
Fans will have from October 23 at 11 KST through October 25 at 11 KST to vote for their favorite name through the COSMO app.
Meanwhile, ARTMS is an upcoming girl group comprised of five former members of LOONA.
Which name do you think suits their fandom best?
Here I've compiled some explanations for each choice:
- APOLLO (Haseul's pick)
Explanation: Apollo is the twin brother of Artemis. Whilst Artemis is the goddess of the moon, Apollo is the god of light and sun. Therefore, "the light from the sun shines on the moon to help us find it in the night sky."
- ASTER (Heejin's pick)
Explanation: From the Greek word for "star", and a metaphor of the fan's lightsticks that are always shining ARTMS on their journey. "An endless sea of fans lighting the way to the moon and beyond".
- Bit (CEO's pick)
Explanation: Not sure on the specifics of this one as it was thought up by Jaden, but I'm guessing it has something to do with our existing fandom name "Orbit".
- BEAMS (Jinsoul's pick)
Explanation: A "stem of light", representing how ARTMS and their fandom are shining a light onto each other.
- Bow (Choerry's pick)
Explanation: The bow and arrow is the main tool used by the goddess Artemis. A bow is made with strands of string, the more strings there are, the stronger the elasticity of the bow is. Therefore, when fans come into formation to make up the "Bow", with ARTMS we become stronger together. Additionally, as bows we will help ARTMS in pointing them to the right direction and their songs will be a hit after hit, never a miss.
- OURII (Kim Lip's pick)
Explanation: Spelt by using the 5th letter of each member's names (jinsOul, haseUl, choeRry, heejIn, and kim lIp), and keeps with the theme of 5 (5 members, and Orbit's "Oh" means 5 in Korean). Pronounced like the Korean phrase for "us two" representing the togetherness of ARTMS and their fans. II is roman numeral for 2, also meaning "our two". In Korean, it can be written with the character that means "one trillion", representing the forever growing popularity of ARTMS.
I personally love OURII the most because of the thought put into its creation, but I'm honestly happy to adopt any of these names! Happy to hear what everyones thoughts are :)
