Recently, a video of a "rising rookie actor" tossing away a cigarette butt on the street garnered attention on online communities.
Originally shared on YouTube, the video uploader claimed that rookie actor Choi Hyun Wook had tossed away his cigarette butt on the street in Apgujeong Rodeo after taking a smoke outside with his acquaintances.
Currently in South Korea, it is illegal to dispose of cigarette butts on the street, especially in non-smoking areas.
Choi Hyun Wook began garnering attention in recent years for a number of appearances in hit projects, such as tvN's 'Twenty Five, Twenty One', Wavve's 'Weak Hero Class 1', and Netflix's 'D.P 2'. Among K-Pop fans, he's well-known as the male lead of NewJeans's "Ditto" MV.
Many netizens expressed anger toward Choi Hyun Wook's actions shown in the video, commenting, "WTF he didn't even put the light out", "Dammit, I was watching 'Watermelon' but now I don't want to anymore", "Does his agency not care what he does outside...", "I thought he was really good in 'Weak Hero' but...", "I can't stand people who throw cigarette butts in the street", "Wow that's the same company that Seo Ye Ji and Kim Sae Ron are in", and more.
Meanwhile, Choi Hyun Wook's latest tvN drama 'Twinkling Watermelon' is currently airing on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8:50 PM KST.
To those unaware, Koreans take their garbage disposal seriously. It's even illegal to throw food in the sink. Those who throw their cigarette butts in the street are usually compared to 깡패.
