After an eventful two weeks, the 25th World Scout Jamboree wrapped up with a successful K-pop concert which recorded 10.9% in nationwide viewership ratings.
According to Nielsen Korea on August 12th, the first half of the 'K-pop Super Live' concert reached 7.9% and the second half recorded 10.9% in nationwide viewership ratings. These numbers were exceptionally high as far as the music shows are concerned. KBS World's YouTube channel which broadcasted the concert live recorded 120K live viewers and cumulative views of 915,000.
This concert was rescheduled twice. Initially, it was scheduled for the 6th but then it was rescheduled to 11th at Jeonju World Cup Stadium. Then it was rescheduled again to be held at Seoul World Cup Stadium due to concerns regarding typhoon Khanun.
Although there were many issues leading up to the day of the concert, the event fortunately successfully wrapped up. 19 K-pop artists including NewJeans, NCT Dream, MAMAMOO, IVE, ITZY, and more performed on stage.
Netizens reacted: "Even my parents tuned in because they were concerned about the Jamboree event as a whole."
"I'm just happy idols and staff members could see something worthy after performing for this."
"I felt bad for the kids tho"
"Jamboree was a hot topic among the older gen lol."
"Wow, this is great for idols who appeared on stage."
"I guess you can't really ignore traditional media coverage after all."
"My dad was watching this lol"
"My parents were asking me if this was the Jamboree thing lol"
The other day when we read some K-pop acts were essentially being forced to perform in this concert, my thoughts were all negative. But when I read this headline a moment ago, my thoughts turned to, it may not be too bad after all.
It's estimated 40,000 were in attendance. These are kids from around the world and happen to be pop music industry's most coveted demographic. The event also had global news coverage. If the acts performed well, they all just received new fans around the world, but most likely, many from home as well.
🤞 For the performers' sake, here's hoping there isn't too much more negative coverage. And perhaps they will gain more than they lost from their postponed or cancelled scheduled events.
Also glad it ended well for the scouts. In the photo, they seem to be all smiles.
