Netizens discuss actor Lee Dong Wook's personal views on house work, 'I think men should do more of the house work'

On the July 25 installment of the YouTube show 'Salon Drip', actor Lee Dong Wook appeared as a guest, reuniting with MC Jang Do Yeon after their talk show 'Wook Talk'.

On this day, Lee Dong Wook piqued interest by revealing that he spends most of his off days at home cleaning and doing the laundry. When asked if he considered himself a clean person, he gave the practical answer, "It's just that I can't go around it. If I don't do the house work myself, no one else will."

The actor went on to share his routine when doing laundry, such as mixing in vinegar for sweaty clothes, baking powder for dry clothes, and no fabric softener, because the addition tends to mix odors. Next, Lee Dong Wook stated, "If I ever get married, I want to do the house work. Since I have my own set way of doing things, I think it will suit me best if I continue to do things my way. I will just say, 'You keep your hands off. I'll do it'."

He also added on, "This is just my personal opinion, but I believe that it is proper for men to do more of the house work. Those who have experience doing it know that house work requires strength. I think it only makes sense for the stronger person to do the work that requires strength."

In response, Korean netizens took to an online community to give their two cents on the matter.

Some commented, "That's something only a man who has actually cleaned and done the dirty work can say. So different from those men who say 'The vacuum does the cleaning and the washing machine does the laundry'", "I watched my uncle say that to my aunt growing up. I want to have a family like that", "Men who have views like that usually grew up in households where the father helped the mother out with the house work. They have a very healthy outlook", "I think it's good to divide up the work based on what you're good at and how much time you have", and more.

However, others argued, "But can the woman support the family as the bread earner?", "That's just his concept. A gentle ladies' man", "If the man makes the money and does the housework, what is the woman supposed to do?", "Ironically, this man isn't married", and "It's not convincing unless you're someone who's actually married and actually keeping your word", stirring up a debate.

This is such a weird thing to have a debate over. Different couples and different people work in different ways. If this is *his* perspective, what 2 cents need to be added?

And as far as the "then can the woman be the breadwinner? What is the woman supposed to do if he's earning money & doing housework?", no one said there was NOTHING she could do. Why can't she be a breadwinner? If he's particular about things, then maybe it's best for him to do the housework. Does that mean she can't POSSIBLY add to the household in other ways? Maybe she do the shopping or the cooking or manage the finances or whatever. I don't know. The couple would have to figure it out.
