Former IZ*ONE member Jo Yu Ri is currently capturing the attention of netizens, after Netflix recently made an exciting announcement regarding her casting in 'Squid Game 2'.
Released in 2021, 'Squid Game' portrays a gripping narrative centered around individuals who take part in a mysterious survival game. With a staggering prize of 45.6 billion KRW at stake, contestants risk their lives by engaging in extreme games, all with the goal of emerging as the ultimate winner.
Within just five days of its release, 'Squid Game' became the first Korean drama to dominate Netflix globally, surpassing even the renowned British series, 'Sex Education'. The incredible performances of leading actors such as Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, Oh Young Soo, Wi Ha Joon, Jung Ho Yeon, Heo Seong Tae, Kim Joo Ryeong, and Lee Yoo Mi garnered immense popularity not only in Korea but across the globe.
Amidst this frenzy, Jo Yu R has secured a role in season 2 of the series, prompting considerable anticipation. Numerous videos showcasing Jo Yu Ri's acting prowess have been circulating on online communities and social media platforms, further amplifying the buzz surrounding her.
Last year, Jo Yu Ri made a cameo appearance as a high school student in the TVING original series 'Work Later, Drink Now 2', where she impressed viewers with her delicate emotional expressions, even while being scolded by Kang Ji Gu (played by Jung Eun Ji).
In May, through the YouTube channel 'Careet', Jo Yu Ri caught the attention when she imitated the facial expressions of Park Yeon Jin from the popular series 'The Glory'. In the episode, Jo Yu Ri compared the facial expressions of the younger Park Yeon Jin (played by Shin Ye Eun) and the older Park Yeon Jin (played by Lim Ji Yeon).
Netizens who witnessed these performances expressed enthusiastic reactions, stating, "I have no doubts about Jo Yu Ri's acting skills," "I have high expectations because I know she is talented," "Her youthful appearance makes it hard to predict the type of character she will portray," and "Her portrayal of the different Park Yeon Jin is so good."
Consequently, expectations are soaring regarding Jo Yu Ri's contributions to 'Squid Game 2' on Netflix, as viewers eagerly anticipate witnessing her on-screen abilities.
I wouldn't be surprised if she plays a very similar role to the rebellious student. My theory is, she plays a rebellious student/young adult, who runs away from home and is angry with her parent(s). Joins the Squid Game to make money, but later has memories of being a brat to her parents and want to make her parents happy by winning the money, so they can have an easy life. Probably will end up having one of the emotional scenes where she dies remembering all the memories of her parents doing so much for her and regret not being a better person for them.
