The Korean entertainment industry is always a hotbed for controversies and intense discussion among netizens.
Recently, the spotlight has fallen onto FIFTY FIFTY, the power rookie group that beat all expectations and broke many records. The girl group's track "Cupid" extended its record as the first and longest-charting song by a K-Pop girl group on Billboard's HOT 100 chart.
As the girl group continues to achieve remarkable milestones, they have firmly established themselves at the center of attention within the vibrant K-pop music industry, heightening anticipation for their upcoming promotions.
However, FIFTY FIFTY has been experiencing a few hurdles in their promotions as news spread that external agencies had attempted to poach the group as the members were on hiatus due to health issues.
The girl group's agency, Attrakt, stated, "This outside party made slanderous allegations against us and has been luring our artists into making the mistake to ignore their legally exclusive contracts and sign with them instead. These acts by the outside party trample on fans' innocent support for the group, but they can also tarnish the image of a group that only debuted 7 months ago as well as harming K-pop as an industry."
Then today, on June 27, Attrakt revealed that an unauthorized account had attempted to shut down FIFTY FIFTY's official fan cafe. On this day, the agency explained in an official statement, "We would like to inform you about the attempted shutdown of the official FIFTY FIFTY fan cafe that occurred at around 3 PM today. This was not done by us but was done due to the unauthorized account takeover by external forces. We have confirmed that they have uploaded the post which says they are going to shut down the official fan cafe."
Not only that, Attrakt is now suing the CEO of The Givers for allegedly secretly buying the copyright for the girl group's hit song "Cupid." FIFTY FIFTY's agency made an announcement on June 27 declaring their filing of a criminal complaint against Ahn Sung Il, the CEO of The Givers, along with three other individuals at Gangnam Police Station.
The Givers, entrusted with managing projects under a service contract with Attrakt, allegedly committed acts of business obstruction, fraud, and breach of trust, which encompassed activities such as deleting project data, intentionally delaying tasks, and erasing the company's mail accounts, among other allegations.
While many expected a bright future for FIFTY FIFTY, the girl group has been facing a series of difficulties, causing fans to be concerned for their future.
Netizens commented, "I hope everything gets resolved well... I was enjoying their music," "I hope they are not a one-hit-wonder," "I'm worried that the group will go under even before the group gets popular, because it's their song that got popular, a lot of people don't even know the members' faces," "They have a lot of potential, hopefully it's not wasted," "This is such a bad time for issues if they want to become more successful," "It's a shame that they might ruin this chance that came to them," "Oh man, seriously?" and "There are so many issues with the group, it's so disappointing. And it's so early on too."
