Rapper Nafla (real name Choi Seok Bae), was put on trial for trying to avoid military service after being absent from work for 141 days without notice at the district office where he worked as a social worker.

Choi Seok Bae was apprehended and charged with fabricating documents to evade his mandatory military service as a social worker by being declared unfit for service. The Seoul Southern District Prosecutor's Office's Military Manpower Administration joint investigation team found that Choi Seok Bae did not go to work at the Seocho-gu office for 141 days in 2021, but the days of his absence were recorded as early or sick leave due to worsening depression.

Two officials from the Seocho-gu office were arrested and indicted on charges of falsely writing the daily service reports for Choi Seok Baek even though they were aware that Choi Seok Bae's symptoms of depression did not worsen, and he was absent from work without notice. Three other officials from the Seocho-gu office were indicted without detention for the same charges.

Prosecutors additionally handed over to trial an agent named Goo, who promoted himself as a “god of military service exemptions,” who helped individuals receive a military exemption through a false diagnosis of epilepsy, and also Ravi, who was previously accused of trying to avoid mandatory military service.

The Seoul Southern District Prosecutor's Office's Military Manpower Administration joint investigation team has put a total of 137 individuals on trial, including Goo and Kim, who were arranging for these military exemptions with the help of public officials.

Many of those who avoided mandatory military service included professional sports players such as volleyball and soccer players, horse riders, along with track and field athletes. It was investigated that their families, doctors, and lawyers at large law firms helped them fake epilepsy diagnoses.
