Three days ago, Heechul was under fire for swearing while talking about sensitive topics on BJ Choi Goon's live stream. During his cursing rant, Heechul spoke about several sensitive topics, including a website for women, issues between Korea and Japan, his thoughts about Kangin, and his thoughts on school violence/bullies.
Regarding school bullies, he used harsh words to criticize their actions and said, "All those school bully b****s should get beat up, they have to be f*** beaten with a bat. Don't live like that." He also said celebrities who were school bullies should get exposed and make school bullying into a bigger controversy to bring more awareness to these issues. He also ranted about a website for women called 'Women Generation.' He expressed, "I've donated a large amount of money in the past, but I kept it to myself. It was okay when nobody knew that, but ****, those **** **** people on 'Women's Generation' online community were like..."
After the broadcast, many people expressed their discomfort towards Heechul's form of speech and criticized the singer.
In response, Heechul posted an apology on February 13, saying it was wrong of him to curse and use harsh expressions. But he felt his opinions on school violence/bullies and about a specific website were not wrong.
He wrote, "Regardless of whether I am right or wrong in my opinion, I apologize for overusing harsh language and vulgar expressions. Once again, I am sorry to the fans who were hurt by the controversy I created. Lastly, I will not be involved in any controversy in the future." He continued to say, "However, no matter how much I look back at this, I don't think there is anything wrong with swearing about school violence bullies, and that certain website. Thank you."
Following his apology, many applauded Heechul for being honest and candid. Many netizens supported Heechul in his opinion about school bullies. However, some criticized him for being a hypocrite.
This is because he was seen being the presider at a wedding for an influencer who was exposed as being a school bully.
YouTuber and influencer Haneul was embroiled in a school bullying controversy and admitted to her actions. She acknowledged her immaturity at the time, but many were still critical of her seemingly dismissive attitude towards school bullying and classifying school bullying as mere immaturity.
As Heechul was seen being the presider at her wedding, this caused more netizens to criticize him.
Netizens commented, "Then why did you decide to be a presider for a school bully's wedding?" "I like he's being candid but..." "It's true that he presided over Haneul's wedding. Such a hypocrite," "Does he call this an apology?" "I like Heechul because he's so honest and isn't afraid to speak his mind," and "He sounds ignorant, to be honest when he speaks like that."
I mean, if he wants to be outspoken about it then he has every right to do so. However, he also needs to be accountable for his own actions and the people he proceeds to support. I can’t speak on the swearing and other issues as that is not my culture and cannot speak upon those sentiments. But to sit there and say “Beat the bullies” only to openly support a friend who was proven to be one is definitely not a good look. It’s like that old saying “Rules for thee but not for me”, as I certainly didn’t see him speaking out about Haneul.
