The rookie girl group TripleS' first unit group, AAA (Acid Angel from Asia), has been embroiled in a plagiarism controversy as soon as they debuted.
TripeS is a new girl group with the concept that "fan create their own girl group,' and the members for the unit groups are decided through a fan "Gravity" voting system. The group also garnered much attention as it was revealed that each unit group would disband if they are unable to hit the 100,000 album sales mark during their 'Dimension' promotion period.
The first "Dimension" unit group that debuted from TripleS is AAA, and includes members Kim Yoo Yeon from 'My Teen Girl,' Kim Na Kyoung, Gong Yu Bin, and Jeong Hye Rin. Their debut album 'ACCESS' contains the new girl group's aspirations to show a different charm from the existing girl groups.
The album was released on October 28 at 6 PM KST, but the girl group released the music video for the track "Generation" ahead of the album release. In the music video, AAA members are seen running away from their private school and enjoying their freedom. After escaping from school, they are seen hanging out and taking selfies.
However, netizens who took a look at the music video raised the issue that AAA's concept is very close to NewJeans' debut concept. NewJeans garnered much attention when they debuted with a retro yet girly aura. The members gained much attention with their long natural hair and the retro school-girl concept that was reinterpreted to fit this generation.
AAA also debuted with the same concept and filmed their music video in a similar fashion as NewJeans' music videos. The girl group emphasized the retro charms with the Y2K styling. There are opinions that both girl groups give off a similar vibe due to the recent popular Newtro concept that both groups have taken in. Nevertheless, netizens are debating online whether AAA copied NewJeans since NewJeans garnered immense popularity with their debut.
Netizens commented, "I thought I was the only one who thought this, lol," "I don't know at all," "Maybe you can say they took the same concept," "TripleS is like Fin.K.L, and NewJeans is like S.E.S," "I don't know if they're similar," "looking at short clips they look similar, but the music video is different," "I think that concept was already existing and it's just becoming popular again," and, "I think they are not similar at all."
What do you think about this?
it is similar but not copying
