Actor Jeon Bae Soo appeared as Woo Young Woo's single father in ENA's K-drama series 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo,' which ended on the 18th. Jeon Bae Soo appeared as Woo Kwang Ho, who gave up on his dreams of becoming a lawyer and started a Kimbap restaurant to raise his autistic Woo Young Woo on his own.
In his interview with 10Asia, Jeon Bae Soo praised Park Eun Bin for her professionalism on set and acting skills. He also shared how it feels to be recognized after another successful drama following the series 'All of Us Are Dead' where he appeared as Nam On Jo's dad, who risked his life to rescue his daughter who was trapped in her school.
Jeon Bae Soo shared, "It [The popularity] is so unexpected but I realize the popularity when I go out. Many people recognize me so I feel it. It feels good. I thought the drama would be popular but I didn't think it would be this popular."
He added, "We didn't know ENA since it was a new channel. So when we all heard 'ENA,' we all asked, 'ENA?' But then we were told the drama will be on Netflix too, so we didn't say anything after."
Jeon Bae Soo also shared how much recognition he received after the drama became popular. He explained, "I live in Yongin and live near an elementary school where there are a lot of kids. Before, they just knew me as a neighborhood Ahjuhssi but then now they call me 'Woo Young Woo's dad.' I also they linger around my house too."
The actor added that his daughter, who's in the fifth grade, watches the drama and that all her friends watch it as well. He explained, "My daughter didn't watch the drama at first but all her classmates knew the 'Woo Young Woo - Dong Geurami' greeting but she didn't know it. So she started watching the drama and became an avid viewer after finding out her dad appeared in it."
He added, "My wife feels a little bit uncomfortable with the popularity sometimes because right now our kids are on a break and we want to go on vacation but so many people recognize me so she tells me to stay home while she takes the kids out," and laughed.
Actor Jeon Bae Soo also shared his thoughts on why the drama was a success and explained, "The drama is very wholesome in its entirety. I also think that even the supporting characters have depth and each character is unique."
He didn't forget to praise Park Eun Bin for her exceptional acting skills. Jeon Bae Soo explained that he really felt like he was acting with an autistic person and was able to empathize with the character of Woo Kwang Ho thanks to Park Eun Bin's acting skills. He explained, "Park Eun Bin would be monotone when acting as Woo Young Woo, and she wouldn't have the emotional empathy even when would I get emotional, so it really felt like talking to a wall at times so I was able to really understand how Woo Kwang Ho felt." He added, "Then I started to become Woo Kwang Ho because I was really able to feel how it is like to talk to a wall."
Moreover, Jeon Bae Soo also met with parents who have children with autistic spectrum disorder to truly understand how it feels. He explained, "There is a family with a child who has autistic spectrum disorder. So I sought out a lot of advice from that family." He added, "The parents who have children with autistic spectrum disorder are truly strong. If they're not they can't raise their kids in our society."
