Concerts are a must when it comes to artists. Concerts are the event in which artists are able to show off their performance skills, and is a place for fans to enjoy their favorite artist's music as well.
The more popular the artist, the larger the concert venues become. However, there is a curious phenomenon in the K-pop industry. Although it seems that female idol groups are more popular with the general public, they seem to hold smaller concerts compared to their male idol group counterparts.
Korean netizens raised a debate on the reason why K-pop boy groups have larger concerts, although it's the female idols and music who are more recognized by the average person and are more popular with the general public.
Netizens commented, "It's because the general public won't spend the money," "I think the general public popularity is different from the ticketing power," "It's because the general public won't go out of their way to buy tickets to go to the concerts," "People like them but not enough to open their wallets to buy tickets," "Real fans are the ones willing to spend money buying albums and going to these concerts, the general public person who listens casually isn't going to do the same," "It's because of the fandom. The fandom," "Because the male groups have more hardcore fans," "The general public won't go to the concerts," "Male groups have a larger fandom that will actually go to the concerts?" "There is a difference between general public popularity and their ability to sell tickets," and "Because it's mostly the fans who go to the concerts."
I thought this was obvious by now- boy groups tend to have more hardcore and loyal fans who are more willing to spend money on them (hence the album sales and tickets). Girl groups appeal to the general public so they tend to do better w/ CFs and streaming.
