Director Hwang Dong Hyuk, who produced Netflix's megahit series 'Squid Game,' mentioned his next work.
According to U.S. media outlet Variety on April 4th, director Hwang Dong Hyuk said in an interview with Mip TV on the same day, "My next project will be 'Killing Old People Club' (hereinafter 'KO Club'), inspired by the work of Italian novelist Umberto Eco."
Director Hwang said, "The 25-page treatment has been completed. It will be more violent than 'Squid Game'." He continued saying, "It will be a film that will cause another controversy. I already named the project 'K.O. Club.'"
Umberto Eco's work that director Hwang Dong Hyuk mentioned is an essay called 'How to pretend to understand a crazy world.' In the story of an aging society, the young people in the novel try to remove the elderly from society in order to relieve the burden of supporting the elderly. It is expected that an unprecedented level of work will be created since the story depicts the 'hunting of older people.'
Regarding season 2 of 'Squid Game,' which is drawing a lot of attention, he explained, "We are preparing for the release at the end of 2024."
From the end of last year to last March, 'Squid Game' has won splendid awards at the major US awards ceremonies such as the Golden Globes, the Actors Guild of America (SAG), the Critics' Choice Awards, and more.
