On February 27th, Lee Jung Jae and Jung Ho Yeon took questions from the reporters backstage after winning the outstanding performance by female and male actor awards at the '28th Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).'
On this day, the two actors from 'Squid Game' were met with a rather disrespectful question from one of the reporters. A reporter from Access Hollywood asked Lee Jung Jae and Jung Ho Yeon, "Not that you're SAG winners, what are you going to miss most about being anonymous?" Lee Jung Jae smiled and did not answer while Jung Ho Yeon answered, "Nothing!"
After the interview was released on the same day, Korean netizens were baffled as this had happened before. Back in November of last year, Lee Jung Jae was interviewed by a reporter from the American celebrity TV show EXTRA in celebration of the success of the Netflix series. During the interview, the reporter asked, "For you, I'm sure you can't leave the house anymore without people recognizing you. What has been the biggest life-change for you since the series came out?"
Once again, the actors were asked a rather rude question as both have been active for a while before 'Squid Game.' Many thought the question was insensible and disrespectful as Lee Jung Jae has been a star in South Korea since the 1990s, and Jung Ho Yeon has been working as a top model for a decade internationally.
Korean netizens commented, "That was such a ridiculous question," "Jung Ho Yeon was already internationally famous as a model," "I think the reporter didn't do her homework," "I don't think Jung Ho Yeon nor Lee Jung Jae was every anonymous, lol" "Just because they were unknown in America, they're anonymous? lol," "There is no one who doesn't know Lee Jung Jae in Korea, lol, so he won't be missing anything," "The amount of years Lee Jung Jae has been famous is longer than when he wasn't a star," "Lee Jung Jae was always a top star as soon as he debuted," "Jung Ho Yeon is one of the top models internationally, lol," and "I don't remember when Lee Jung Jae was ever anonymous, lol."
I hate to be the one to say this but, the press asks everyone stupid or annoying questions. Especially in the US. I’ve seen it time and time again. Now, I didn’t watch the SAG awards so I don’t know what else they were asked. But, from seeing this particular question it’s not surprising.
