A new year has begun, and the new year is an exciting time, but it's also nerve-wracking for some K-POP fans as it is time for contract renewal for some of our favorite K-POP groups.
Previously, we covered girl groups that will be facing contract renewal, such as TWICE, Oh My Girl, and April. Groups that debuted in 2015 will be finishing their seventh year of promotions, and members will have to decide if they want to continue with their current group and agency. This time is often called the "seven-year curse," as many groups usually disband or the entire group doesn't stay with the agency. As fans may be nervous and uneasy about this time, it's a crucial time for these groups - we hope for the best, but whatever decision is made should be respected by fans and netizens. Without further ado, let's check out the groups that will be facing contract renewal this year!
SEVENTEEN
SEVENTEEN will be facing contract renewal this year; however, all members have already apparently re-signed with PLEDIS, which means we'll be able to see more of them in the upcoming years. Quite impressive, as it must have been difficult to re-sign all thirteen members!
MONSTA X
MONSTA X is officially into their seventh year of promotions as well - while it is unsure if the group will renew or not, it's important to note that member Shownu is currently enlisted in the army.
DAY6
DAY6 already went through a member change when member Jae left the group. Sungjin & Young K are currently serving in the army, and Dowoon is expected to enlist sometime this year as well.
N.Flying
Boy band N-Flying is also facing contract renewal this year; however, the good news is that they all re-signed last year, so good news for N-Flying fans!
UP10TION
Another boy group that will be facing contract renewal is UP10TION. Member Jinhoo is currently serving in the army, and Jinhyuk & Wooseok have been focusing on solo activities and promotions.
iKON
The YG Entertainment boy group will also be facing contract renewal. There have been some unconfirmed rumors that iKON actually has a ten-year contract, but that rumor is unconfirmed, and it would be considered unethical in the K-POP world. They recently participated in KINGDOM: Legendary War, but haven't been promoted much since then.
With these boy groups facing contract renewal, who are you looking forward to the most? Even if they decide not to go on, it would be quite a delight and pleasure to see all these groups heavily promote in 2022 as they are all talented groups and individuals! Let us know in the comments below!
I hope ikon leaves and goes to BI’s label
