Park Jimin’s Solo Track, “Filter”
Ah, 2020. The year to experience historical events, organize your cabinets, and listen to hot new BTS singles.
You may know March of 2020 for other things, and it’s likely “Filter” was playing in the background. Park Jimin – Korean popstar and member of BTS – was experiencing wild success with his new solo track. Filter
was growing in popularity and grabbing Spotify titles like crazy.
Jimin describes his inspiration for the song as a camera filter – a metaphor for the lens we see our relationships through. He describes the song as having many levels that relate to our everyday life. From social media to prejudice, Filter can be interpreted to mean many things to many people – perhaps the exact reason the Korean pop song has resonated across the world.
For Jimin, Filter has been his most successful track to date, making waves well into December of 2020. After reaching 100 million streams on Spotify, Filter has not stopped. As of February 2021, the buzz from this track has still not fully worn off.
The Rise of Filter
in the Charts and to Today
After the release of Filter in February, the waves began immediately with the track gaining over 2.2 million streams on Day 1. The “Biggest 24-Hour Debut” record was set on Spotify for a kpop solo song – and that was just the beginning.
Jimin’s solo track kept climbing Spotify charts around the world, proving that it was resonating with more than Korean pop-culture. The song quickly topped the Spotify Top 100 charts in countries all over the world, climbing to #38 in the US.
Consistently topping Spotify charts around the world, Filter broke records in iTunes Top Songs Charts by making it to #2 in Worldwide iTunes, #2 in European iTunes, and #1 in 33 Countries in iTunes – all by July of 2020.
As the song went on, it made its way to grabbing many more titles – including BTS’s highest-performing solo track. Shattering glass ceilings in iTunes and topping music purchases on Amazon, Filter became a career-elevating track for Jimin, showcasing his widespread relatability as an artist.
A Bright Future for Jimin
