Well-known YouTube Creator,Lindy Tsang, is currently under fire for allegedly using the late Goo Hara for sympathy.
It all started with a video Tsang shared a vlog earlier this week that showed her 5-year-old son playing with a block of soap that was shaped like male genitalia. Viewers immediately called her out for allowing her son to play with such an inappropriate item.
Tsang responded by posting some now-deleted Instagram posts stating "To those who are butthurt about this being inappropriate, don't worry and chill! Learn to laugh and live a little bit. The guy has never seen an erect p***s in his entire life. To him, it's a cannon..."
Tsang then stated that she wasn't really upset by the incident but critics were constantly bombarding her with hate comments and messages. So, Tsang took to her Instagram to respond to the posts.
Tsang posted, "Celebrities and influencers are not immune to your judgment even though you expect them to suck it up. They're people. With feelings. You cut them open and they will bleed the same colour as you."
She then posted, "Recently I heard in the passing of yet another Korea[n] Idol Goo Hara and was so saddened by the news. Now I look at idols who are popular today and wonder which one is next to suicide."
Tsang was simply attempting to make a point about cyberbullying and the effect it can have on someone, critics and fans alike did not like her drawing similarities between herself and the late Goo Hara. Netizens think that she took the issue too far by drawing the comparison, and some have even brought up other controversial things she has mentioned in the past. It seems she is losing support from her online audience.
Some comments on a now popular Reddit thread read as follows:
"What happened to Goo Hara was nothing compared to this wom[a]n. Goo Hara was publicly humiliated by the Korean [general public] and her struggle with her mental health demeaned...This situation and her situation are nowhere near the same level..."
"Oh my stomach just dropped... Hara’s passing has been really hard on me. that’s so disrespectful."
"I’m so tired of her... so upset with her. She’s so hypocritical."
"It’s disgusting that she dragged an idols suicide into this mess just for her own benefit. What low will she sink to next week? I hope brands start dropping her."
"That was outright disrespectful of her. What does Goo Hara being bullied/abused to the point of committing suicide have anything to do with people being genuinely concerned (or "butthurt", as she likes to say) about her son playing with a d**k soap? It's like she's using the tragic incident as a way to guilt-trip anyone that points out her questionable actions."
[UPDATE]
Since the reddit thread and news articles have gained attention to more of the public, fans have come out to voice their support for the creator and her words. Fans have been offering encouraging words for Tsang such as the following:
"I've been a subscriber for 8+yrs!! She has not shown anything except her true self and what she want to share from her private life to her audience. I support her 100%"
"Lindy is not "using" Goo Hara's death for personal gain. She's simply spreading and emphasizing the message that words matter online or in person. It's an anti-cyber bullying message."
"Huge Bubz fan and honestly Koreans be taking it too far."
"She wasn't posting that to gain sympathy she posted that to talk about how the media can drive someone to suicide and that hateful comments aren't needed."
"I've seen bubz or years and watched her grow. She's definitely not the type of person to do such a thing."
What are your thoughts on the situation?
People think they can bully internet celebs, and they do/say the nastiest things to them while pretending they're "concerned". This woman simply reminded people that someone recently died (partially) because of bullying, and here they are doing it again because they found a convenient excuse.
