This is all opinion.
Alright this post will be a bit more informal than my other article. FTIsland was one of the first Korean acts that I followed, along with Super Junior, Exo, DBSK/TVXQ, and Shinee. I fell in love with Hongki's role as Jeremy in You're Beautiful. Sidenote: I also love his song Severely.
HOWEVER
I was confused on how to feel during this whole case with Junghun.
I was wondering if his case actually warranted all of the hate that he was getting about his situation.
From another AKPOP article, I saw that, "It's reported Jonghun's blood alcohol content level was 0.097%, and he received a fine and suspended license," which was said to be the normal punishment. To my initial understanding, it was said that he tried to keep the incident from media/public (understandable in that lifestyle). In another article, it claimed he was trying to be free of any punishment. Don't know how true either is but he paid his dues.
While I know that bribing or attempting to bribe police is illegal, I didn't see how fans suddenly switched up and called for his immediate removal. Especially since he was punished for his act accordingly and it happened years ago.
***Someone said that after everything was revealed he attempting to bribe again, but I am not sure how true that was***.
Just in the grand scheme of things, drunk driving and bribery are serious things, but I did not see how it warranted the extreme hatred and loss of career sparked by fans when so many idols, many of which those who are angered still support, maintained their careers after their scandals+drunk driving scandals.
While I am proud of Hongki for holding Jonghun accountable, the phrase, "I give up" seemed to harsh. Like it seems like so many celebs try to immediately dismiss their relationships to avoid being in scandals. While it's understandable self-preservation, it makes many of the relationships/friendships seem fickle.
Trial and error--> I have friends who have done stuff similar, but I can't see abandoning my friend for years in a quick instant. I would have understood it a little more if he was to acknowledge Jonghun's wrongness or bench him until further notice and hold him accountable that way.
I don't know if it's because it is harder for me to sever connections when I take bonds so seriously and take a while to bond with others.
The part that I do think would be understandable for removal from group was it was speculated (?) that he shared videos of himself with someone. I do not know if true, but it would be understandable if true.
Are we just gonna pretend that whole disgusting chatroom didn't exist now?
