Most of the time, idols are not allowed cell phones until they've gained some ground on the music scene, such as winning #1 on a music show. During the filming of 'Idol Drama Operation Team', Jeon So Mi talked about some of the things she did to get her hands on one to contact her family.

She revealed that she'd even tore the screen on her window down to borrow a phone from the outside. Once, when she met fans, she gave them food in exchange for using their cell phone for a moment. She said, "I managed to get to my mother, but we had filming right afterward, and I only heard her voice for a little bit."
