WINNER member Song Min Ho has reportedly admitted to most of the allegations related to his poor performance during mandatory social service, raising the possibility that he may be required to serve again.

On March 31, a spokesperson from the National Police Agency stated at a regular press briefing, “We have summoned Song Min Ho three times for questioning, and based on the results of searches and communication investigations, we will determine whether there are grounds for charges.”

The Seoul Mapo Police Station is currently investigating Song Min Ho for violating the Military Service Act. He is accused of failing to properly carry out his duties as a social service worker beginning in March 2023.

According to police, Song Min Ho has admitted to most of the allegations, including frequent absenteeism. Investigators questioned him on January 23, February 15, and February 26, and collected evidence—such as CCTV footage—from the community center in Mapo District, Seoul, where he was assigned.

During the first round of questioning in January, Song Min Ho reportedly claimed he had “served properly” and that “there were no problems.” However, he is said to have acknowledged the allegations during subsequent interrogations when presented with evidence.

The police plan to finalize their investigation soon and forward the case to the prosecution based on the gathered evidence and testimony.

Song Min Ho initially began his social service in March of last year and was officially discharged on the 23rd of last month. However, allegations that he failed to fulfill his duties properly surfaced shortly after, sparking controversy.

His agency, YG Entertainment, responded by stating that his medical leave was for treatment purposes and that all absences were within legal regulations. His workplace supervisor also explained that Song Min Ho had been diagnosed with panic disorder and depression, qualifying him for early discharge. Nonetheless, he had reportedly chosen to continue his service in order to maintain his entertainment career.

As the controversy escalated, Seoul Mayor Oh Se Hoon called for a thorough investigation, and the Military Manpower Administration referred the case to the police.

Various current affairs programs have also spotlighted the controversy, reporting that Song Minho traveled twice to the U.S. during his service—once for his sister’s wedding—raising public concern about how he was able to make long-distance trips despite being diagnosed with panic disorder, bipolar disorder, and depression. He was also criticized for maintaining long hair throughout his service, which some argued was inconsistent with expected appearance standards.

Other social service workers who served with him stated that he was frequently absent from tasks such as phone duty and post office errands. One testified, “He definitely didn’t show up for an entire week. Sometimes he came once or twice a month, and eventually, we barely saw him at all.”

Meanwhile, the Military Manpower Administration has stated that if police investigations confirm that there were issues with Song Min Ho’s service, they will cancel his discharge and require him to serve again for the period during which he failed to meet his obligations, even though he has already been discharged.
