Following his innocent appeals trial last summer, the Supreme Court has upheld the Seoul High Court ruling and Arthur Patterson will be serving 20 years in prison.

Charged with murdering 23-year-old Cho Joong Pil, stabbing him multiple times inside a Burger King restroom in Itaewon back in 1997, the Super Court claimed, "There is no shadow of a doubt that Mr. Patterson has indeed killed the victim with the weapon.  Thus, it is decided to sentence the suspect to 20 years in prison as originally ruled."

The maximum sentence for someone under 18 is 20 years and since Arthur Patterson was 17-years-old at the time of the crime, he received the maximum 20 years.

According to investigators, there were two reasons why Edward Lee was named a suspect at that time, one being his height and weight.  From the autopsy, they stated that the suspect had to be much taller than the victim.  However, Patterson was much shorter than the victim, whereas Lee was taller.  Now, it is believed that the victim crouched, which would match up with the shorter person Patterson stabbing the victim.

Second, was the results of the lie detector.  Edward Lee's test results came out clean, while Patterson came out with many false answers, raising many questions.  Unable to find any clear evidence, Edward Lee was found innocent of all charges, which then lead the investigation to shift to Patterson as being the main suspect.
