'2016 MAMA' might have been a giant festival for some fans, but it was barely watched.
According to Nielsen Korea, '2016 MAMA's average ratings were 1.2% for all three parts. The first part had an 1.15% average, the 2nd part had 1.39%, and the 3rd part, surprisingly, even though it was the part with all the biggest awards, had the lowest rating of 1.10%. The show in total averaged 1.2%. Even worse, the 2049 target rating, considered the most important (this is the ratings of those with ages 20-49, aka the main consumer age), remained lower than 1% throughout.
That's less than half of last year's 3% ratings. There's no way to definitely know why the discrepancy happened, but some are pointing to the lack of YG Entertainment artists at the ceremony, among other reasons.
Why do you think this happened?
