Sergeants Kim In Gyu and Choi Yoon Seok of the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency's highway patrol were making a round of the Suwon vicinity when they received a panicked phone call from a couple whose daughter was injured. 

The couple, identified as the Kwons, told the officers in a frenzied tone, "Our child's finger was severed and we have to get to a hospital in Seoul for her to get surgery in under two hours but we're stuck in traffic."

The injury had occurred on the morning of February 7, right with the Lunar New Year around the corner. The Kwons' 8-year-old daughter was playing with the handle of a wardrobe at the Kwon family home located in Cheonan when the last joint of her right hand ring finger somehow got severed. 

The Kwons had immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was redirected by the doctor there to seek a specialty clinic in Seoul. So the Kwons hit the road in a hurry once again save their baby girl. Unfortunately, due to the holiday traffic, they could were immobilized on the road. 

That is when Choi and Kim came to the Kwons's rescue, telling the family to meet them at a rest stop in Jukjeon-dong in ten minutes. Once both parties reached the point of rendezvous, everyone piled into the Choi's vehicle and the officer turned on his siren and slammed on the gas pedal. 

Using the bus lane and the shoulder, Choi sped as fast as he could and was able to reach the hospital in 30 minutes. Kwons's daughter was said to have gotten the necessary surgical procedure to attach the severed joint back onto her finger. 

Choi relayed, "The severed joint was in an ice box but if [the daughter] didn't undergo surgery in two hours we learned that attaching the joint would be impossible so we drove as fast as we could. We were so relieved to hear that the procedure went well."
